17 Years in Insurance Has Taught Me This: Life Changes Faster Than Insurance Policies

After 17 years as a State Farm agent, I’ve learned that having insurance and understanding your insurance are two very different things.

Most people know they have insurance when they receive the renewal and assume they’re covered. But covered for what? And how much? What’s changed since the policy was originally written?

Life doesn’t stand still. We remodel homes, add buildings, buy new things, change jobs, start businesses, watch our families grow and begin thinking differently about retirement. Your insurance needs can change right along with you—even when your policies haven’t.

Some of my customers know their coverage inside and out. Most don’t—and I don’t expect them to. That’s my job.

This October, I’d encourage you to take a few minutes and ask yourself one simple question:

“Do I know what my insurance actually covers?”

If the answer is “not really,” that’s a conversation worth having.
